Perpetual futures trading on Sui

Sui is the fastest-settling general-purpose chain for perp DEX trades that PerpFinder tracks. The Move-based L1 achieves sub-500ms transaction finality, and its parallel execution engine processes non-dependent transactions simultaneously. Bluefin is the primary perp DEX on Sui, and it is purpose-built to exploit both properties.

Bluefin and what Sui enables

Bluefin runs an off-chain order book with on-chain settlement and gasless deposits. The 1 basis point maker fee is among the lowest on any perp DEX PerpFinder tracks. Trail of Bits and Chaos Labs both audited the contracts, making it one of the better-audited venues in the tracked set.

The combination of sub-second finality and zero-gas-on-deposit creates an execution profile that approaches centralized exchange speed while preserving self-custody. PerpFinder has observed Bluefin fills completing in under 200 milliseconds on standard market orders during multiple test sessions in April and May 2026.

DefiLlama's Sui chain page shows TVL above $2 billion, with DeFi protocols spread across lending, AMMs, and perps.

Sui's architecture advantages for order books

Sui uses object-centric storage rather than account-based storage. Each object (a position, a balance, an order) has a defined ownership structure, allowing the runtime to execute transactions touching different objects in parallel. For an order book, this means processing multiple order fills simultaneously without blocking. Ethereum and most EVM chains cannot do this because their account model requires sequential state transitions when the same account is involved.

The Sui documentation describes the consensus-free fast path for transactions that involve owned (non-shared) objects, achieving near-instant finality without waiting for full consensus. Perp position updates mostly touch owned objects, making Sui structurally faster than networks that must wait for full consensus on every state change.

Limitations

Sui's EVM incompatibility is the biggest friction point. Traders holding assets on Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Solana must bridge to Sui before trading on Bluefin. The bridge adds cost and 5-10 minutes of latency. Sui's developer ecosystem is smaller than Ethereum's, which limits composability with lending protocols and yield strategies that might otherwise interact with perp positions.

Bluefin is currently the only tracked perp DEX on Sui. Concentration means the chain's perp story depends entirely on that one protocol's growth.
