What this means for EU users
Bitrue was founded in 2018 in Singapore (Bitrue Singapore Pte. Ltd.). Unlike most unlicensed venues it has a named EU subsidiary — Bitrue Lithuania UAB — holding a Lithuanian VASP registration (FNTT no. 306725033). That is the pre-MiCA national anti-money-laundering regime, scoped to exchange and custody services rather than derivatives; Bitrue itself frames full MiCA/CASP licensing as a future goal, and it is not in the ESMA register.
A VASP registration does not carry past the MiCA transition regardless, so Bitrue has no MiCA authorization for EEA retail after July 1, 2026. Bitrue also suffered a hot-wallet exploit on April 14, 2023 that drained roughly $23 million; it paused withdrawals and pledged to reimburse affected users.
