Arbitrum (ARB) market overview
ARB gives holders a vote in ArbitrumDAO decisions. An ARB perpetual futures contract tracks its price without transferring ARB voting rights. The price trade does not give a trader a say in how the network runs.
What ARB holders can vote on
The ArbitrumDAO rules describe votes on software changes, funds, and the rules of the group. They also define which tokens can vote and how holders assign their votes. The size of a contract trade does not enter that vote.
A proposal, a successful vote, and an implemented change are separate events. The rules set wait times and other steps after a vote passes. A headline about a vote does not show that the network already uses the change.
ARB trading and Arbitrum transaction fees
Arbitrum One uses ETH for network transaction fees. The Arbitrum Nitro paper explains how the network prices and collects those fees. Trading ARB and paying a network fee with ETH serve different purposes.
A trading venue can operate on Arbitrum without offering an ARB contract. Likewise, an ARB contract can operate on another network. The Arbitrum chain page describes venues associated with the network; this asset page concerns ARB contracts.
Read ARB positions without inferring votes
ARB open interest measures reported open contracts. It does not count tokens eligible to vote or show the outcome of a pending proposal. Funding rates describe contract payments and do not establish whether a proposal will pass.
