The ETH perp ranking — same logic as BTC, different execution profile
The Ethereum perpetuals table uses the same sort as the Bitcoin table: liquidity score first, taker fee as tiebreaker. Hyperliquid leads at 9.5/10 liquidity, dYdX follows at 9.0/10, and GMX at 8.5/10 rounds out the top three.
The protocols are identical to the BTC ranking, but ETH perp behavior differs in ways that change which venue is actually best for your specific trade.
How ETH perps differ from BTC perps
**Funding rate behavior.** ETH tends to carry higher funding rates than BTC during bull markets. ETH positions accumulate directional retail interest more quickly in uptrends. In the March-April 2024 rally, Coinalyze funding data showed ETH funding rates averaging 0.02-0.04% per hour on Hyperliquid — double the BTC rate during the same period. A week-long $50,000 ETH long at 0.03% hourly costs $2,520 in funding. That swamps any fee comparison between venues.
**Liquidity depth at different sizes.** ETH-PERP order book depth on Hyperliquid is slightly shallower than BTC-PERP in dollar terms, because BTC's higher per-unit price concentrates open interest differently. For ETH positions above $500,000 notional, check the live order book depth at PerpFinder before sizing. The cost comparison tool models spread cost at different notional sizes.
**Oracle-based execution tradeoffs.** On GMX, ETH fills at the Chainlink oracle price. ETH's oracle update frequency is comparable to BTC's. The gap-risk profile is similar. On high-volume ETH trading days with fast price moves, oracle lag can mean your fill is 0.1-0.3% off the current spot price.
Worked ETH trade cost example
$80,000 ETH long, held for 48 hours, on two venues:
**Hyperliquid:** Fee: $72 round-trip (4.5 bps × 2). Funding at 0.02%/hr: $80,000 × 0.02% × 48h = $768 total. All-in: $840.
**Orderly Network:** Fee: $48 round-trip (3 bps × 2). Funding roughly similar to Hyperliquid (both are mark-to-oracle based). All-in: ~$816.
The fee saving from Orderly vs Hyperliquid is $24. The funding cost of $768 is 32x larger than that fee difference. This comparison demonstrates why the best-funding-rates page matters more than the fee ranking for multi-day ETH positions.
PerpFinder tracks live ETH funding rates across all venues at the funding rates tool. Check current rates before sizing any ETH position you plan to hold overnight.
What to look for beyond the table
ETH-specific metrics worth monitoring:
**ETH OI across venues.** High ETH OI signals crowded positioning. When OI is extreme relative to 30-day average, funding rates typically follow. Coinalyze's ETH OI chart gives the cross-venue breakdown.
**ETH/BTC pair activity.** Some ETH perp traders use ETH-PERP as a relative trade (long ETH, short BTC). The venues that carry both markets with comparable depth are Hyperliquid, dYdX, and Orderly. None of the smaller venues in the table have sufficient BTC depth to support a meaningful ETH/BTC spread trade.

You primarily want ETH exposure with minimal maintenance. The top venues here are all solid choices for a simple long or short. If you are holding for more than 72 hours, check funding rates first at /tools/cost-comparison — that number will dominate your total cost.
Also skip this if you want ETH perp exposure as part of a broader multi-asset strategy. Gains Network covers ETH alongside forex and commodities in one account. That context may be more relevant than the pure ETH-perp ranking above. See the full perp listing for current volume and OI data across all venues.
