Same maker fee, different taker fee
Bybit and Kraken both charge makers 0.02% at the entry tier, and Kraken charges takers 0.5 basis points less. The Bybit fee page lists 0.055% taker for non-VIP accounts. The Kraken fee schedule lists 0.05% taker at futures Tier 1. The gap is $0.50 on a $10,000 market order and $5 on a $100,000 order.
Funding periods
Kraken settles funding every hour, while Bybit settles BTCUSDT funding every 8 hours. A Bybit rate covers a period 8 times as long as a Kraken rate. Kraken pays funding 24 times a day and Bybit 3 times, so convert both rates to one day first.

UK and EEA access
Bybit no longer accepts new UK residents. From October 21, 2026, Bybit limits UK accounts to withdrawals and small-balance conversion. Bybit also states that it will limit some Bybit Global services for EEA residents. Kraken sells perps to EEA clients through a CySEC-licensed firm.
In the UK, only professional clients can trade Kraken derivatives. Kraken serves US residents through Kraken Derivatives US, except in Maine and New York. The Bybit terms bar the United States.
Leverage
The Bybit instruments API lists 150x for BTCUSDT. Kraken states up to 50x in select regions, and EU clients get up to 10x on eligible pairs.
Licences and security record
On February 21, 2025, more than 400,000 ETH and stETH left a Bybit cold wallet for an unknown address, per the Bybit incident update. Bybit holds a UAE SCA licence for its platform operator company, per its press release.
Kraken lists its licences in the EEA, the UK, the US and other countries on its licence page.
