How we measureMethodology v9
For each venue, the sweep walks the ask side of the order book for a market buy of $10,000, $100,000 and $1,000,000. It starts the half-spread at the first price level with $5,000 of depth, so a very small order at the top of the book does not set it.
Slippage (bps) = half-spread + price impact, both against the mid price
Slippage (USD) = slippage (bps) ÷ 10,000 × order size
For a size between two stored sizes, the calculator shows the two readings as a range. For a size below $10,000, it shows the $10,000 reading as the upper value. A venue that could not fill a larger stored size shows only the lower value. The taker fee column is the base-tier rate that the sweep charged. It is not part of the slippage.
Read the cost methodology for the venue models. The crypto slippage comparison shows the full BTC and ETH tables with the book depth.
Median slippage by asset and order size
Each value is the median of the order-book venues with a stored reading, in bps. The last column counts the order books that could not fill a $1,000,000 buy within 2% of the best price.

Terms used on this page
- Slippage (price impact)
- Slippage (price impact) is the extra cost of an order that fills through more than one price level, measured beyond the best quote. A larger order has more price impact.
- Bid-ask spread
- The spread is the gap between the best bid and the best ask, in basis points (bps) of the mid price. A market order pays half of the spread.
- Total trading cost (all-in cost)
- Total trading cost (all-in cost) is the selected-side cost of one order at a given size: the fee plus half of the spread plus the price impact, in bps and USD.
Questions answered from the data
What is the slippage on a $1,000,000 BTC market buy?
In the sweep of October 3, 2026 at 12:55 UTC, the median was 1.51 bps across 31 order books.
Toobit had the lowest value: 0.006 bps, or $0.59. 5 order-book venues could not fill the order within 2% of the best price.
Which exchange has the lowest ETH slippage?
For a $100,000 ETH market buy, 9 venues tied for the lowest stored value (Apex Omni, Binance, GRVT and 6 more venues): 0.019 bps.
At $1,000,000, XT.COM had the lowest value: 0.019 bps. The order can change after the next sweep, so check the table for the current reading.
Is slippage the same as the trading fee?
No.
Slippage is the price that the order book gives you against the mid price. The taker fee is a separate charge that the venue publishes. For a $100,000 BTC buy, the lowest slippage was 0.006 bps. Lighter had the lowest total after the taker fee, 0.575 bps, because its fee was 0 bps.
How does the calculator estimate a size between two readings?
The sweep stores each venue at $10,000, $100,000 and $1,000,000.
For a size between two of them, the calculator shows both readings as a range. A larger market order uses more levels of the same book, so its cost in bps is expected to be in that range. The calculator does not draw a line between the two points.
Does the calculator measure a sell order?
No.
The stored sweep measures market buys only. A sell uses the bid side of the book, which can have a different depth. The live cost comparison measures a sell on request.
